Storyline of Writing Brushes 「笔」
Three Kingdoms - Jin Dynasty
Xuan Brushes: Originating from the Xuanzhou area (now Xuancheng) in Anhui Province. Tradition holds that Xuanzhou began making brushes during the Qin Dynasty, with the style solidifying in the Jin Dynasty. By the Tang Dynasty, it had reached its peak, becoming China's first major brush-making center. It declined during the Yuan Dynasty, replaced by Huzhou brushes.
Song - Yuan Dynasty
Wang Boli Brushes: Named after the renowned brush maker Wang Boli during the Song Dynasty. In the Southern Song period, the Prefect of Huizhou grouped Wang Boli Brushes with Chengxin Tang Paper, Li Tinggui Ink, and Goat Head Hill Inkstones as the "New Anhui Four Treasures," presented as tributes to the Emperor.
Late Ming - Qing Dynasty
Xuan Brushes: Known for varieties such as An Wu Yi Zhi, Jade Tube Xuan Hao, Seven Mane Brushes, North Tail Combined Mane Dou Brush, Ancient Method Tie Mao, and Lotus Dou Brush.
